The Office of the Vice Provost for Advances in Learning (VPAL) hosts a number of large and small events throughout the year geared toward building connections across Harvard Schools and units and strengthening the resources of the Harvard community. A subset of its convening occurs under the auspices of the Harvard Initiative for Learning and Teaching (HILT) office.

HILT organizes [a wide range of events](https://hilt.harvard.edu/events) throughout the year—from intimate workshops to large-scale conferences—designed to bring members of the Harvard community together. These gatherings create opportunities for collaboration, idea-sharing, and relationship-building, while strengthening the collective resources that support innovation in teaching and learning.

The goals of the annual conference are to: (1) promote dialogue across Harvard’s campuses about educational innovation, including constructive discussion of provocative, thoughtful, and contrasting perspectives; (2) provide examples of experimental approaches and research studies that help faculty think through how to experiment in their own teaching with the practical insights; and (3) expand the network of Harvard scholars, instructors, senior leaders, academic professionals, and students who are improving educational practice.
- **Signature Events** began in April 2020 as a way to offer virtual social opportunities for the Harvard community in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. The remote events are held on a broad range of timely topics and are often co-sponsored by the Harvard Alumni Association.
