"Soft launch" of the Rita E. and Gustave M. Hauser Digital Teaching & Learning Studio

Dear Colleagues,

I write with the exciting news that on Wednesday, December 4th we were able to “soft launch” the Rita E. and Gustave M. Hauser Digital Teaching & Learning Studio, located on the concourse level of Widener Library.  (See “Move over, Gutenberg” in the Harvard Gazette).

The facility will serve both as a high-tech production facility and as a training ground for faculty from around the University who want to experiment with new approaches to further integrating digital age video into their teaching.

In the weeks between now and Winter Break, Padrick Ritch, our Production Supervisor, will be working with a small handful of teams to break in the new space.  The trial runs done by these early groups will allow us to fix any bugs that may arise, train staff on how to use the equipment and create some sample videos that can be used to demonstrate what can be done in the new studio.

You can find additional information on the Hauser Studio webpage, including a form to request time in the studio.  Soon to come is a video walk-through of the space so that all those who are curious can take a peek.  In January we will have two open houses (Monday, January 6th from 12:00pm to 3:00pm, and Thursday, January 23rd from 9:00am to 12:00pm) to allow visitors to see the facility.  Those who are interested can sign-up for a tour by filling out this survey.

Please disseminate the link to the webpage widely and let your faculty members and other colleagues know that they will be able to schedule time in the Hauser Studio to produce instructional materials beginning on January 2nd.  Priority will be given to faculty working on HarvardX projects and those who are creating materials for classroom use in the near future.

Finally, I want to acknowledge the generosity of Rita and Gus Hauser for making this and so many other activities in the teaching and learning space, possible.  At a later date, we will celebrate our state-of-the-art video capture studio with both of them present on campus.

Best and thanks,
