The genetic sequence of COVID-19 was published on January 11, 2020. In the United States, human clinical trials of a coronavirus vaccine began on March 23, 2020. Still, researchers say it will take months before scientists know if the vaccine will work. Dr. Dan Barouch, Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School, and his team began working on a gene-based vaccine immediately after the sequence was released. Learn why Dr. Barouch believes parallel development of multiple vaccines is essential in the fight against COVID-19.
